Princess Diana’s wedding dress dropped by the Today Show this morning as part of its continuous world tour, bringing with it several handlers, yards of red carpet, and its original designers David Emanuel and his wife Elizabeth. And while the dress is certainly a sight to behold, we were most interested to hear how the Emanuels managed to keep designing the thing a secret.
To start with, they hired two security guards to each work twelve hour shifts — apparently journalists were posing as potential clients in order to try and sneak their way into the showroom — but they also held secret dress rehearsals, to which Diana would arrive in jeans. “I’d tie a bit, 25-feet, of cotton behind her,” Emanuel explained. “And then say, ‘Darling, practice walking up and down now.”
