In W‘s newest installment of Lynn Hirschberg‘s Screen Tests, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler chat about how they met, their now-legendary senior thesis at Parsons, and their process of creating new collections.
Their story is pretty much a fashion fairy tale: fourteen years ago, they were classmates at Parsons when Tim Gunn was the dean and “just a normal dude”. They collaborated on their senior collection (even though that was against the school’s rules), and then, Julie Gilhart ordered the entire thing for Barneys.
But the real story actually began before the pair even stepped foot inside Parsons — they met at a club while Hernandez was trying to get inside some “lesbian room” and somehow met McCollough. Naturally, they smoked some pot, and boom, a lifelong friendship blossomed.
Check out the full interview over at W, and just try to tell us that Hernandez’s accent isn’t totally adorable.
