The tenth season of Project Runway doesn’t premiere on Lifetime until tomorrow at 10PM, but it looks like the drama in the workroom is already heating up.
Heidi Klum was on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, and she gave a little more insight into those reports that contestants were dropping like flies during the first few weeks of taping. After fist bumping Fallon and showing off an early modeling test shot, Klum confessed that this season: “We had some cowards on the show. I have to say, they never even said goodbye.”
Not even an Auf Wiedersehen? “The next day we pick up the designers and two are missing. We were like, ‘What happened to them?’ They had just walked off in the middle of the night…They weren’t cut out for it. They couldn’t make it work, as Tim always says.”
The New York Post delves even further into the juicy details:
Sources tell us one contestant, a male designer, “had an episode as the show filmed at Parsons School for Design. A psychologist was brought in to talk to him, but he seemed too nervous and it was decided he should leave the show.” Just hours earlier a female designer and contestant disappeared from the set. The source told us, “She just ran off in the middle of the night. The next morning she wasn’t in her bed, her suitcase was gone. Producers went to her home, and her doorman said she was upstairs but didn’t want to see anyone.”
The drama is not confined to the contestants, however. In an interview with WWD, Klum dished on disagreement amongst the judges:
You know, if there’s someone I really, really believe in and Tim [Gunn] or Nina [Garcia] doesn’t, I really will fight with them to get who I love until the bitter end. Sometimes I don’t succeed, like with Mondo [Guerra, season eight’s runner-up] for example. I really wanted him to win, but I got overruled. Jessica Simpson and I, we wanted Mondo, and Nina and Michael [Kors] wanted Gretchen [Jones, season eight’s winner]. Then all the sudden they got Jessica on their side, so then it was three against one.
The supermodel got her way eventually though, since Guerra went on to win Project Runway: All Stars. No surprise there — after all, does she seem like the kind of woman you want to mess with?
