The Weirdest Gifts The Queen Received For Her Diamond Jubilee

Every year, Queen Elizabeth receives hundreds of gifts from princes, presidents, and random weirdos alike. And with 2012 being the year of the Diamond Jubilee extravaganza, the presents were more plentiful than ever. The Daily Mail has a breakdown of the many, many gifts the royal family received this year — though, sadly, not those given to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as those are reported separately — and we’ve plucked out the, shall we say, unusual ones from the bunch.

While some of the items were things we would be more than happy to receive, such as a 1950s Tiffany & Co. compact given to her by the Obamas, or a territory of land in the British Antarctic renamed in her honor (hint, hint!), others were less likely to top our wish lists. Here are a few such wares bestowed upon the Queen by members of the general public:

  • A wicker throne
  • A model of the ceremonial coach made from an ostrich egg
  • A crown-shaped dog bed
  • A knit tea cosy featuring the Queen with her corgis
  • The adoption of a baby Asian elephant
  • A baby llama

Yes, a llama. And, alas, as much as we would have like to see the baby animal befriend Liz’s corgis in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, he or she was sent off and is now living happily in a zoo.
