In Beasts of the Southern Wild, youngest-ever “Best Actress” nominee Quvenzhané Wallis sticks to a grungy uniform of a tattered tank top and rolled-up jeans. In real life, however, the nine-year-old is clearly partial to glitzier fare. Wallis stopped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno yesterday with director Benh Zeitlin to talk about the film, the fast-approaching Academy Awards, and whether designers are clamoring over one another to dress her for the big day, and wore the kind of awesome outfit grown-ups secretly wish they could get away with.
The actress paired her grey sequined cardigan with a sequined top, sequined high-tops, bright purple leggings, and a matching ruffled headband. She also brought along a puppy purse, natch, although not the Oscars-ready oversized one Ellen Degeneres gave her earlier this week.
In the segment, Wallis tells Leno about what she did when she found out she was nominated for an Academy Award (“nothing reacted on the outside, but I was like flipping cartwheels and stuff”) and what designers are vying for the chance to make her a kid-sized Oscars gown. As per usual, she’s adorable.
