When Sunglass Hut named Rachel Bilson as their first celebrity style director back in April, we had to wonder what role she would actually play in the company. As they prepare to open a slew of stores in new locations including China, Thailand and the Philippines, Sunglass Hut revealed that the rising style icon will be modeling and blogging for the vendor, as well as traveling to some of the store’s foreign sites.
Sunglass Hut CEO Fabio d’Angelantonio, who was a fan of Bilson’s career launcher, The OC, told Women’s Wear Daily that Bilson’s presence in the company has already made its mark. “For Sunglass Hut, it was something new. She is really bringing the brand to a new level. She is great for business, and I think she is great for the brand.” This apparently became clear to d’Angelantonio when Bilson made a store appearance last year and hundreds of people (some of whom were crying!) lined up to meet her.
In May, Mark Abrahams photographed Bilson for a series of posters set to go up in store windows this summer. So prepare yourself to see the actress’ face everywhere in the coming months — there are currently 2,800 Sunglass Huts and the store estimates that by 2015 that number will have risen to 4,000.
Another one of Bilson’s responsibilities as style director? Keeping a blog on her favorite sunglass brand (Ray-Ban, of course, because they’re “easy”), conducting interviews, and responding to fan mail and reader questions. The actress says her favorite part of the gig is traveling because “people are just so responsive and excited that I’m there to talk about sunglasses.”
