For a brand we don’t think about very often, Fred Perry sure does have some high profile collaborations.
Amy Winehouse‘s line for the brand was subject to renewed interest after her untimely death, and apparently Raf Simons has done work with Fred Perry as well. Simons designed seven collections for the sportswear label in a partnership that ended last spring.
At the end of April — mere weeks after it was announced that Simons would be joining Dior — Perry announced the relaunch of its collab with the designer. The 28-piece spring 2013 collection will debut at Paris men’s fashion week later this month. As per the company’s website, Raf is pumped:
“We are very excited to re-launch the collaboration with Fred Perry. We have great appreciation for the heritage of the brand as well as their dynamism in guiding the brand towards the future. Their openness to create synergies between both our brands will bring interesting, creative results.”
We’re curious about the timing of all this. Did Simons decide to give it another go after he left Jil Sander, but before he knew he was headed to Dior? (Or did he know he was going to Dior at the time of his departure?) At Dior, he’ll be responsible for two more collections than he was at Jil Sander (couture!!!), and this project puts even more on his already full plate. Perhaps he feels renewed creatively, or perhaps he just wants the money. Speculation! So much of it!
Look, a piece from the collection!
