Ralph Lauren Reveals Team USA’s Opening Ceremony Uniforms

Have you caught Olympic fever yet? The fashion industry most certainly has.

Ralph Lauren has just unveiled the uniforms that our athletes will be sporting come July 27th, otherwise known as the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. (That’s just over two weeks away! Can you handle the excitement?!) As befits the official gear of Team USA, the outfits are ever-so-patriotic, with classic navy blazers topping summer whites, accessorized with striped ascots for the ladies and neckties for the boys. Also: berets.

Spiffy stuff, to be sure, but if we didn’t know any better we’d think the athletes were a unit of naval officers. Well, the guys at least. No one is going into battle in a silk skirt, unless of course that battle happens to be on a tennis court.

Olympians Ryan Lochte, Bryan Clay, Giuseppe Lanzone and Heather Mitt model the looks in the promo shot, and we have to wonder what aspiring fashion designer Lochte thinks of his getup. And, of course, whether Ralph Lauren will let him accessorize the uniform with his red-white-and-blue grills. Hey, at least they’d go along with the color scheme!
