NYFW: Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2014

Even downtown romantics get a little rough around the edges, which is why Rebecca Minkoff was able to dip into tomboy territory with ease this season. For fall, Minkoff gave the quintessential ’90s girl a polished update. The moody color palate was comprised of blueish grey, pale pink, deep oxblood, soft ivory, and midnight blue paired against metallic lamé, plaids, and pinstripes. The menswear-inspired collection was dominated by sumptuous Crombie coats, button-downs, slit pencil skirts, roomy trousers, and our personal favorite, statement beanies.

Much like last season’s visit from  Janelle ‘The Electric Lady’ Monae, Minkoff honored tradition by soundtracking the runway with a live performance. We were on cloud nine when AlunaGeorge hit the runway as we’ve been playing their album Body Music on repeat ever since it dropped this summer. Producer George Reid’s future pop instrumentals and singer Aluna Francis’ airy vocals added extra oomph to the models’ strut and much to our delight, the show closed with their sultry hit, “You Know You Like It.” Get familiar with Minkoff’s latest offerings, below, and listen to the Rebecca Minkoff x AlunaGeorge Fall 2014 Songza playlist here.
