At some point while we were relaxing after dinner last night, fashion writer and man-about-town Derek Blasberg got a message that’s been retweeted and reblogged around the fashion world: “I was just told backstage at the @KatyPerry concert (of all places!) that Riccardo Tisci is CONFIRMED at Dior.”
Now, we don’t like to trade on unfounded rumors, but this isn’t exactly an unfounded rumor. Bloggers and reporters everywhere have reported that Tisci is among the frontrunners to replace John Galliano, who was fired from Dior after making anti-Semitic comments.
Then again, Blasberg’s tweet did come from backstage at a Katy Perry concert, not backstage at Paris Fashion Week. (Ed Note: Though, to be fair, the concert was in Paris.) And because of that we’re reluctant to treat this tweet as cold hard fact. Honestly, what LVMH exec with that kind of information hangs out backstage at a Katy Perry concert?
So we’re not going to report that it’s definitely Tisci — even though we’d be thrilled if it was. For now, we’ll just say that someone else thinks he’s got the job.
