We take solace in the fact that even Jay-Z and Rick Ross know a thing or two about unrequited love. The two rappers have waxed poetic about Rick Owens‘ luxe wares, only to have the designer go on record saying he’s essentially never listening to their music.
“I must admit that I’m not that familiar with Jay-Z or Rick Ross or hip-hop in general,” Owens told AnOther magazine. “I mainly listen to hardcore techno, old disco records, and old show tunes. But of course I’m pleased to have a happy client and I think it is nice that they talk about my products.”
Poor Mr. Carter, he probably thought after successfully wooing Tom Ford, he’d have the fashion world eating out of the palm of his hand. Alas, the only street beats Owens will be pushing are that which come from the step team stomping his runway.
We’d also be more emotionally distraught about Owens’ taste for techno music had we not recently become privy to it thanks to his A Day in the Life portrait in Harper’s BAZAAR. Luckily, he later redeems himself by revealing that he prep his shows listening to Judy Garland and Aretha Franklin. Sorry HOV, you ain’t got nothing on those dames.
