If you think Rihanna is just going to wear some plain white tee and nondescript booty shorts on her Diamonds World Tour, think again. The super star kicked off her tour in Buffalo, New York on Friday, and turned the stage into a runway with some custom Givenchy duds.
Designer Riccardo Tisci created Rih’s opening look: a black floor-length silk crepe cape (dare you to say that five times fast!) with an embroidered collar, and black-and-white thigh-high boots. She then “whipped off the cape,” revealing a black menswear-inspired parka with gold embroidery and Swarovski Elements, a black-and-white leather bra, and coordinating black satin and silk mini-shorts. “Couture goggles,” a “RIRI” necklace made of shark teeth, and some boring crystal stud earrings finished her look.
Tisci wrote in a statement:
“I enjoyed making these looks: Rihanna represents what young and amazing means today. She is punk and talented. She offers intelligence, energy and pure beauty. Rihanna has what every girl aspires to have. She is the face of her generation.”
