What Does Kid Rock Have To Do With Rihanna’s Rolling Stone Cover?

Stylists get inspiration from strange places sometimes, but the lady who styled Rihanna for the cover of Rolling Stone went a little too far in the Cowboy direction for our taste. Still, we have no doubt that the getup B. Akerlund created for the cover will inspire impressionable girls to choose scanty outfits All Summer Long. Only God Knows Why those shorts RiRi is wearing are so short. Enough Kid Rock references for you? OK. Because the cover outfit was inspired Kid Rock.

Fashionista reports that Akerlund had Rihanna’s metal mesh short shorts custom made by Michael Schmidt Studios, which has made clothing for other famous music people — think Lady Gaga, Madonna, Steven Tyler, Tina Turner, Grace Jones and legends of their ilk. And she had a specific theme in mind when she asked for metal shorts that look like really, really shiny denim.

“The inspiration was if Rihanna and Kid Rock had a baby.”

Uh huh. We sort of see it. We don’t necessarily want to, but we do. The wifebeater helps. But we’re going to be honest — we much prefer the Chanel couture dress she wore on the cover of Vogue. Not because we’re snooty or anything, but for us it’s more aesthetically pleasing. Primarily because it doesn’t include a reference to Kid Rock.
