That’s right, Laura and Kate Mulleavy have created a limited edition line of gift cards, mugs, cup sleeves, and tote bags just for Starbucks beginning November 13. The items will be plastered with a gray, white, and silver checkerboard pattern against a green background, which you can check out below.
The Mulleavy sisters are lauded for designing undeniably beautiful wares, but their clothes are definitely not for the masses. Laura told the Associated Press:
“Our clothing is specialized and when we are thinking of Rodarte, we choose things that say who we are as designers, but we’re not limited to that. We like the idea of collaborations and putting our thought process somewhere else.”
Of course, it also helps that vice president of category brand management, Samie Barr, is just on the lookout for cool designs, which fits Rodarte’s aesthetic:
“We felt we had a broad audience of customers. We look for unique and differentiated, not necessarily looking for ‘mainstream.’ … People buy with their eyes.”
This is one of the more interesting collaborations we’ve heard in a while, and it’s mostly because the companies could not seem more different from each other. That being said, yes, we will most likely snag a gift card or two.
Take a look at one of the giftcards below, and tell us — are you camping out for Rodarte x Starbucks on November 13?
