Is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Vogue‘s November Cover?

Rumor has it that Vogue‘s November issue is going to look very different from September and October. Reports are circulating that Rooney Mara, star of the upcoming film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, will be front and center on the fashion magazine’s cover.

Our friends at Fashionista say they have it on good authority that Mara will grace the cover, but of course they’re not the first people to suggest the idea. Earlier this month a Rooney Mara fansite suggested the very same thing, and Avenue Insider posted an item about the possible cover in August. Granted, it’s probably going to happen — November and December are generally when actors start to campaign for Oscar nominations and whatnot, and Dragon Tattoo will be released all over the country just before Christmas. What better way to get people excited about the movie than the cover of one of the biggest magazines in the nation? Maybe Mara chatted about the cover with Vogue editrix Anna Wintour when the two sat next to each other at the Rodarte presentation during New York Fashion Week?

Still, we have our doubts. Vogue‘s November issue will more than likely hit newsstands in a few short weeks, so for maximum impact, we’d think they’d want to wait later in the year for a cover. On top of that, Mara has already had a Conde Nast cover this year — who could forget the indelible image of Mara as her character, Lisbeth Salander, on the cover of W‘s movie issue in January? (If you recall, that cover was originally intended for Vanity Fair.) Anna Wintour may love having celebrities on her covers, but we don’t think she’d be willing to play second fiddle to Stefano Tonchi so soon.

But Mara is a talented, beautiful up-and-comer, so there’s probably a Vogue cover in the cards for her. She may just be getting it sooner rather than later.
