While we imagine that there’s a parade of splendid presents being carried into Buckingham Palace pretty much non-stop, the fashion world has been called upon to bestow Little Prince George of Cambridge with custom designs for his little tootsies. Footwear News asked Michael Kors, Sophia Webster, Ralph Lauren’s head of design Phoebe Goodman, Sam Edelman, and Livie & Luca’s Kat Philbin to craft the footwear by hitting the sketch books. Some of the designers even revealed their inspiration, from political aspirations to British heritage:
“The coloring for [my] shoe is representative of British heritage — red, white and blue — and the zigzag trim lends itself to bunting, usually seen at royal celebrations.”
“The world today is all about equality: same-sex marriage, unisex fashion and [my] perfect equal-opportunity baby slippers.”
Lauren’s Phoebe Goodman:
“Ralph Lauren’s iconic preppy style was easily translated into British royalty with Royal Stewart plaid. The gold soutache trim and luxurious linings felt perfectly fit for His Royal Highness.”
Personally, we find ourselves most drawn to Lauren’s tartan design, because if there’s anything that warms our royally-obsessed hearts, it’s a little old-fashioned grandeur.
