Last November, Selita Ebanks was just hanging out with her boyfriend and BET host Terrence J at a Miami club when fisticuffs allegedly broke out between Ebanks and Telemundo model Liza Irizarry. Now, Irizarry is suing the Victoria’s Secret model for an undisclosed sum.
So, how’d it all go down? According to The New York Daily News, Irizarry ran into Terrence and Ebanks as they were exiting a club. Irizarry gave Terrence a kiss on the cheek because they were longtime friends, but a reportedly drunk Ebanks was not pleased with the interaction. Irizarry recounts the situation:
“When she saw me, she said, ‘Don’t be kissing my man. I said to myself, ‘So what, that’s my friend.’ That’s when she hit me on the nose. I went to swing back — that’s when all her friends jumped in. I felt hair pulling and fists coming at me.”
Witnesses broke up the fight, and the next day, Irizarry realized she had a busted nose. She went back to New York where doctors said she had a complex nasal fracture and nasal obstruction that required surgery. Nine months later, she’s filing an assault and battery claim, and is asking for an undisclosed sum to cover “pain, suffering and medical bills”. Charges haven’t been filed against Ebanks, and Irizarry hopes the suit will send the model and everyone else a message:
“I’m so angry, because she thinks she can get away with anything. You shouldn’t be allowed to put your hands on anyone for no reason. Me saying hello to someone doesn’t give you the right to hit me.”
Irizarry’s lawyers add:
“We hope that with an action like this, Miss Ebanks will no longer attack or assault anyone. We think this is a very simple case of assault and battery by a woman, who maybe used her status and stature to feel like she could get away with something.”
