In an industry so focused on image, Ugly Duckling stories are abundant when discussing fashion. We have entire television series based on the concept of going from drab to fab with a few makeup lessons and a touch of botox. But we all know that despite the importance of appearance, what’s inside is what matters. And no film exemplifies this more than Shrek.
For Issue 18 of VMAN, photographer Ellen von Unwerth shot the Ogre and his fellow castmates, along with models Agnete Hegelund, Emma Dumont, Paolo Anchisi, and Francisco Lachowski, in honor of the 4th and final chapter of the Shrek franchise which will be released in the U.S. on May 21st.
Who would have thought Shrek and his friends would be standing near designs by Alexander Wang, D&G, and Marc Jacobs? The only other thing we could have asked for would be to have the characters themselves donning the haute couture, a la Miss Piggy in Marc Jacobs.
