BREAKING: Simon Doonan Leaving The Observer

We’re used to talking about Simon Doonan in the context of his post as creative director of Barneys New York. But Doonan’s side projects — one of which includes a humorous column for the New York Observer — is what makes his public persona all the more robust.

But apparently Doonan, who has been writing for The Observer since 2000 and has more or less been one of the biggest names on the paper’s masthead, is leaving to start a new column for Slate.

We’re assuming, based on his writing portfolio which includes a handful of books in addition to his column, that his work at Slate will have plenty of the humor and wit for which we love Doonan so much.
