Pragmatic footwear was not the fashion choice that made Carrie Bradshaw, and consequently Sarah Jessica Parker, a household name. But all that wedging into those iconic pairs of Manolos apparently did a number on the actress’s delicate paws.
At a doctor’s visit due to a foot injury, Parker told Net-A-Porter, her physician professed concern over the state of her feet, stating that she had “created” a bone where one didn’t previously exist in order to fit her feet into precariously high heels. But the transformation had just cause: “For ten or so years, I literally ran in heels,” she said. “I worked 18-hour days and never took them off. I wore beautiful shoes, some better made than others, and never complained.”
Now, she’s taking a hiatus, and “the chickens are coming home to roost.” No more cheap shoes for SJP, and lower heel heights will be introduced into the mix. We’re not sure how the petite Ms. Parker will fare in large crowds henceforth — she’s only 5’3 — but we don’t doubt that she’s got the style savoir-fare to select a distinctive pair of flats.
