The September cover of Vogue Italia reads “Avant-Garde”, and avant-garde it is.
Stella Tennant is the issue’s cover girl, though she’s less recognizable than usual thanks to some kooky styling. The supermodel’s waist is cinched to oblivion via a corset (and Photoshop, we hope), and her hair is a thing of sculptural runway dreams. She menacingly wields a pair of scissors in her right hand…to cut the branches in her left? We just don’t know! What we do know is that she’s wearing a rather large nose ring. Would the people over at Vogue Italia call it a slave ring, or maybe an ethnic ring? We hope not.
We actually really love this Steven Meisel-shot cover. The play on proportion is interesting and surreal, as is the use of quirky props. Do you agree?
