TIME WARP: Wild & Whimsical Steven Arpad Shoes From The 1930s


Outrageous footwear didn’t start with Noritaka Tatehana or Alexander McQueen — crazy awesome shoes have been around for quite a while. Steven Arpad was known for his inventive take on women’s footwear, and his designs date back to the 1930s.

The striking thing about Arpad’s shoes (some of which he designed for Balenciaga) is that many seem so incredibly modern. It wouldn’t be surprising to see these 70-year-old heels in the pages of Vogue (and we do mean in the current Anna Wintour-helmed monthly incarnation). Check out some of Arpad’s amazing creations below.
