If being jealous of a pair of teenage girls is wrong, then we don’t want to be right. We’ve dedicated a lot of words to praising web phenom Tavi Gevinson and an almost equal amount to the ethereal adorableness that is Elle Fanning, so you can imagine our tween-at-heart brains almost exploded when we saw that Tavi had interviewed Elle for her new site, Rookie.
The interview is great for a few reasons. First, it features two of our favorite people! Second, it features two of our favorite people who just so happen to also be teenagers! Third (and most importantly), it only serves to highlight that these two favorite people are teenagers and teenagers are prone to excited, giggly, and enthusiastic conversations. This is how it starts:
TAVI: So, I know that you really like The Virgin Suicides. Can we just freak out over how good it is for a sec?
ELLE: Oh my god, it’s so good! It’s my favorite movie.
Which is to say: it’s great because it’s less of an interview and more of a recording of two teenagers talking. Case in point:
How’s 8th grade going so far?
It’s going good. Do you have a school uniform?
No, I don’t. Do you?
Like you’re living The Virgin Suicides.
I know! Isn’t it crazy? [Laughs] We have the plaid skirts and things like that. We have to have a white collared shirt, and then in junior high and high school it’s khaki bottoms—so skirt, shorts, or pants—and then plaid if you want.
Anyway, read the whole thing. It’s a great way to spend 10 minutes on a Friday evening and learn about Elle’s obsession with Marilyn Monroe, among other things. We’re gonna go play MASH.
