Nothing in Anna Wintour‘s world is ever left to chance. And while Nicki Minaj’s appearance with Wintour front row at September’s Oscar de la Renta show left tongues wagging, another fashion week cameo managed to fly mysteriously under the radar — until now.
We hear that Grammy-magnet and American sweetheart Taylor Swift has been tapped for Vogue’s March cover. We hear Vogue has been calling in samples for a potential Swift cover shoot — and the choice makes sense. Not only is Swift literally the darling of American music, but she’s got an absolute embarrassment of riches when it comes to rabid fans. It’s no secret that Vogue has been skewing younger in its cover choices, Meryl Streep notwithstanding. Then 20-year-old Kristen Stewart covered 2011’s February issue, 25-year-old Lady Gaga held court in March, 23-year-old Rihanna nabbed April, while July star Emma Watson is only 21.
Word is that Wintour personally invited Swift to Rodarte’s Spring 2012 show — see above — and it’s worth noting that, fellow guest (and twenty-something) Rooney Mara turned out one of the best covers of the year in November.
While there’s no word yet on February, Minaj and her courtside appearance at Oscar make a pretty good case, knockoffs be damned.
