In recent years, we’ve seen a so-called “return of the supermodel,” and that means that these days, some of our favorite, most talked about celebrities are models. There’s Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, Coco Rocha, Jourdan Dunn, and plenty of others. So we don’t envy whoever had to choose 2013’s “Model of the Year.”
Yet, a decision was made, and the winner is…Kate Upton.
We’re not sure if we’re surprised or not. Upton has certainly not lost much momentum since 2012, and her unique place in the industry (tip-toeing the line between fashion and sex) has made her not only a model, but an icon. Yet, it’s hard to ignore what a great year Cara D has also had, between modelling, singing, acting, eyebrow-influencing, and gracing the covers about a million different Vogues.
We’re not sure what the criteria is for Model of the Year, but we know it must have been an extremely close call.
The award will be presented at this years 10th Annual Style Awards, held on September 4 (the eve of Fashion Week) and hosted by none other than the delightful and funny Nicole Richie. The event will, for the first time ever, be filmed, and if you tune in on September 14, you’ll be able to Upton get her award alongside Zac Posen, Victor Cruz, Frédéric Fekkai, Patrick Demarchelier, Rachel Zoe, John Varvatos, and more.
