The Week in Review: July 26 to 30

They say quality is more important than quantity, and there were a lot of quality news stories this week. Read on to see if there’s anything you missed.

On Monday, Penelope Cruz announced that she wanted to rid the world of teen magazines, the UK’s equalities minister waged a war against airbrushing, Willow Smith painted her ear silver and we tried to break down what’s happening at Geil magazine.

On Tuesday our senior editor Ruthie Friedlander got up at the crack of dawn to talk about granny sandals on The Early Show. Then we lauded Saks Fifth Avenue for its decision to start selling plus-size clothing, we begged Jon Stewart to shave his goatee, and we made a list of fashion icons we wished would join Twitter.

Wednesday morning came as President Obama came to New York City, where we learned he’d be having dinner at Anna Wintour‘s house (we later liveblogged his arrival). One of Miranda Kerr‘s friends blabbed that the model was pregnant, and Elle’s Joe Zee braved the heat of Manhattan in a fur suit by Chanel.

On Thursday, an airport in the UK announced it would offer free spray tans for people going on vacation, Essence magazine’s Angela Burt Murray defended her decision to hire a white fashion director, and we went back in time to look at some of our favorite models when they were young.

On Friday we saw Lady Gaga‘s cover for Vanity Fair, Emily Blunt said she didn’t want to be airbrushed, and we took a look back at all of Zac Efron‘s hairstyles.
