How cool were you when you were 17? Probably not as cool as Lena Dunham.
In case you weren’t already jealous of her life, and that she gets to hang out with Rashida Jones, dance with Hamish Bowles, and go on double-dates with the Obamas, you can now learn she also had a sick life as a teenager. A recent photo she uploaded to Instagram shows that when she was 17 years old she was already hanging out with Anna Wintour‘s daughter and contributing to Teen Vogue as a “player” on its New York panel.
Now, it’s no news that Dunham was a precocious young kid growing up in NYC. She was featured in Vogue as an 11 year-old, alongside Jemima Kirke and other fashion-forward children, after all. But we kind of expected that, like a normal person, the Girls‘ star had an awkward phase where she was decidedly un-cool. Apparently, though, this is not the case.
The photo shows a 17 year-old Dunham next to Bee Shaffer (Anna Wintour‘s daughter), Selby Drummond (now an editor at Vogue), Annabelle Dexter-Jones (now an actress), and a handful of other cool kids. Sporting some epic platform sandals, Dunham may not look destined for the stardom she has come to know, but she certainly doesn’t look like a loser.
It’s also worth noting Bee Shaffer’s amazing, very teenage quote: “‘We’re all pretty different, which is great.”
