If there’s one show we’re sure will stick with us fifty years from now, it’s Thom Browne Spring 2014. While it was arresting to no end, it was also ripe with night terror bait. His inspiration, “insane Elizabethan clowns,” is scary enough, without adding an insane asylum backdrop complete with the kind of nurses you might find on American Horror Story, Joker-inspired beauty, and a droning xylophone soundtrack. Smoke and mirrors aside, Browne presented the most impressive of elaborately constructed pieces, whether he was emulating war era nurse uniforms or taking shoulders to all new heights, as he does.
For those with money to burn and a unique sense of what one wears to look equal parts frightening and devastatingly chic, Browne’s spring garments are up for pre-order trunk show grabs on Moda Operandi as of today. To set the launch off right, we asked the hot-off-the-runway e-tailer’s resident crimson-haired It girl Taylor Tomasi Hill about her thoughts on the haunting frocks. Her reply was succinct, yet all-encompassing:
“How would I describe Thom Browne’s spring presentation? In two words: Terrifyingly Beautiful. In another two words? Must Own.”
Her two favorite looks from the nightmare-inducing show include the Short Sleeve Back Fin Jacket with a Matching Pencil Skirt, as well as the Draped Shoulder Pintuck Jacket paired with the Paneled Skirt. And you though that skirt suits were boring…
