Maybe it’s our inner geek speaking, but lately we find comical all the adroit attempts by the fashion clique to mingle with the runny nosed techies. Consider the notoriously icy, Tiffany & Co.‘s most recent virtual foray: The Engagement Ring Finder.
Billed as especially useful for men, the luxury jeweler says it’s glittery new app makes it easy to research, browse (to scale in six different carat sizes) and save a virtual collection of your favorite engagement rings–because what straight man doesn’t spend his free time trolling Tiffany & Co. in search of the perfect bauble. Moreover, you’re afforded the option to share your ‘ring’ with your ‘friends’ (who can voice their Likes or Dislikes) through your preferred social medium.
Now pardon us for being the ring bearers of bad news but all of this sounds like something out of a J.Lo rom-com–you know the scene where the tragically single woman is busily pouring over potential engagement rings as she crosses the street into oncoming traffic. Alas, seems the days when luxury makers shilled their wares by remaining cool and aloof are long gone–but for an avid window shopper. Yes, we said window. Their crack team still hasn’t figured out a way to make virtual the act of buying–so after all of that work you’ll still have to truck it down to the store to make it official.
