The fashion industry has been wild about Tilda Swinton for years now. Known for her adrodgynous look and out-there elegance, it’s impossible to miss Swinton and her forever changing hair color: blonde, red, brunette — you never know what you’re going to get.
V Magazine recently sat down with the actress for next month’s issue to talk about her newest film, slated for the silver screen in June 2010. I Am Love, directed by Luca Guadagnino, is a “labor of love” that Swinton has apparently been working on for over a decade. And in true Swinton manner, the character is not only a powerful woman, but a fashionable one.
“She has a very carefully chosen wardrobe, which is like a uniform,” Swinton told V Magazine of her character, Emma Recchi. “A woman in [Emma's] situation is never very far from a pair of Ferragamo shoes. It’s this idea of wearing these golden handcuffs,” Swinton says. “Everybody puts on what they need to prepare themselves for the world, and a woman in that scenario needs to dress a certain way to pass muster.”
Swinton herself does not appear to have the same concerns in real life as her character has in the film. Instead, she finds herself “confused” by people who live their lives as only one thing; Swinton thrives on transformation. In both her personal fashion choices and the fashion choices made for her shoot, Swinton shows the world that unlike many, she’s not afraid of change.
