Wouldn’t Tom Ford just be the best dad ever? (Other than our own dad, of course. Hi Dad!)
It’s been nearly six months since the birth of his son, Alexander John Buckley Ford (he goes by Jack), and the designer sat down with André Leon Talley to dish on how he’s juggling fatherhood with his responsibilities at his eponymous label. Short answer? By waking up really, really early. Fresh off his first full-scale runway show since the Gucci/YSL days, Ford tells Talley that he carves out a couple of hours each and every morning for some quality time with his son:
“I feed him in the morning; I change his diaper; I dress him; I play with him. And I have a good two or three hours before I go to this office, just me and Jack.”
André seems incredulous about the diaper bit, but Ford insists he changes them “all the time.” That said, he ain’t using no run-of-the-mill Huggies. “They are all natural, disposal, biodegradable diapers,” the designer concedes. And as busy as he is, he says he never had any intention of relying on a squadron of nannies. “I didn’t have a child because I wanted to hand him off to somebody,” he tells Talley. “I had a child because I’ve always wanted a child.” Aw.
