We pride ourselves on our sports coverage here on Styleite, so you can imagine our frustration when we saw a 7 foot tall man towering over the runway at Sunday night’s Tommy Hilfiger show and couldn’t quite place him. A flurry of emails between us and SportsGrid later, we had confirmation: it was Amar’e Stoudemire, Anna Wintour‘s new BFF and center/forward for the New York Knicks.
It’s Hilfiger, so we were expecting celebs, though curious to see what impact the concurrent Grammy Awards would have on turnout. But then again, this is the fashion industry we’re talking about, which is to say: if you can’t get musicians, get thee an athlete! Pre-show, Stoudemire held court on the runway’s worn red carpet while photogs went a little nuts over Petra Nemcova. And while we waited for a seat (yep, standing room again), we caught up with The Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander and her awesome fur hat, who came fresh from Montcler’s flash mob fashion extravaganza in Grand Central. “So creative! And so amazing,” she called it. And when we asked her for her fondest fashion week memory (in over 30 years of experience, no less), she told us it was “talking to Karl Lagerfeld,” hands down. No surprise there.
And then we found ourselves a seat, settled in, and enjoyed the menswear meets Ali McGraw meets Bianca Jagger inspired looks that Hilfiger sent down the runway (in between ogling Stoudemire who was seated two seats down from Anna Wintour and kitty corner from a bevy of lady celebs like Rosario Dawson, Rose Byrne, and Olivia Palermo — who, we might add, we almost missed in the crowd but for her artfully dishevelled bob. So tiny!) And then it was over and we were spat out of the tents and directly in front of Stoudemire, who we accosted with our microphone held high above our heads and grilled on his relationship with Wintour and his alleged Vogue spread. The scoop: Anna and he go way back (they met at “the opening of fashion week” last September), and while he wouldn’t confirm any details regarding Vogue, he did say of the photoshoot, “I heard it was great.” Stop playing coy, Stoudey. We’re on to you.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
