Transgender Miss Universe Contestant Competes!

The Miss Universe Canada competition was held in Toronto Thursday night, and transgender contestant Jenna Talackova stole the show.

The 23-year-old was dismissed from the Donald Trump-owned pageant back in March for not being a “naturally-born” female, however the onslaught of much-warranted media backlash prompted Miss Universe to both reinstate Talackova and announce that they would henceforth allow all transgender women to compete.

In an interview published in today’s Globe and Mail, Talackova said of the ordeal:

It’s all worth it once you get on the stage. A month ago, I was disqualified and then soon after [an organizer] asked me if I wanted to come judge and I don’t know what that was. It was just hard on me and I said, ‘No, I’m going to be in this competition.’ And now I’m in this beautiful gown and I’m about to strut it and work it and it was just so liberating and amazing.

And strut it she did. The Vancouverite wore a backless, floor-length white gown in the eveningwear portion of the event – not a bad look as far as pageant dresses go – as well as a red halter dress and a skimpy white bikini. It could be the hair, it could be the height, but, quite frankly, we think she looked the most beauty queen-ish of all the beauty queens on the stage.

The winner of the pageant will be announced tonight and will go on to represent Canada at the Miss Universe competition in Las Vegas on June 3rd.
