We never know what Tyra Banks is going to do next. From waking up and deciding to go to Harvard to writing the enthralling novel that is Modelland to inexplicably firing everyone on ANTM, it’s no secret that she’s pretty unpredictable. Next up in the crazy world of Tyra: a combination office/Girls Club in Manhattan, aptly named TZONE, which will include — wait for it — a wellness center, a bakery, and a planetarium.
Construction has already begun on the new building on Avenue D, and it will open in the coming year. Tyra’s goal in housing the Lower Eastside Girls Club in her office building is to revive a summer program she started in 1999, also called TZONE, to help girls build self-esteem.
Tyra told the New York Times:
“What I don’t want to be is Tyra, the ‘celebrity girl’, coming here and the girls being excited when they see me. I want them to be numb to me. I can do normal work here and they can see me, to know that this is what a business is. It’s not about living on a red carpet. I am a businesswoman who goes to work every single day.”
Let’s hope this is true, and that this will be about the girls and not about Tyra. However, we do hope she’ll be teaching all the girls to smize.
