Model Wins Settlement In Vampire Weekend Album Cover Case

Just over a year ago, model Ann Kirsten Kennis filed suit after Vampire Weekend used a 27-year-old photo of her for the cover of their album Contra. She wanted $2 million from the band, their label, and photographer Richard Brody.

Kennis did not grant permission for the photo to be used — in fact, Brody forged her model release. Kennis has won an undisclosed settlement, but Brody is in hot water. He licensed the Polaroid (which he may not even have taken!) to the band for $5000. They are now suing him, claiming he is responsible for all liability in the matter. We have to agree with them!

To complicate matters, Brody no longer has legal help at his disposal; his lawyers left after he failed to pay his bills. Yikes.
