Last night in Danville, Kentucky, Vice President Joe Biden and Macho, Macho Man Paul Ryan wore their sparring suits and faced off in the Vice Presidential debate.
There was the usual faux-friendly face time between the candidates and their families, which gave us the opportunity to check out the ensembles of wives Jill Biden and Janna Ryan. Biden, 61, looked chic yet understated in a plum ruched jersey dress accented with a round, glitzy pin, while Ryan, 32, picked a winner with her bright berry-colored dress and matching jacket (a hue we’ve seen many times before on Michelle Obama), which The Huffington Post columnist, Lauren Rothman, identified as a possible Anne Klein find from Macy’s, currently on sale for $159.99. The blondes also defied the stereotype of stiff, too-coiffed hair of political wives — the former sporting her signature flip and the latter opting for loose, undone curls. Well played, ladies.
Alas, Paul Ryan still seems to be swimming in his suits — a fact which had the unfortunate effect of ensuring his shoulders monopolized the screen at all times. Biden’s attire was tailored, giving him an air of maturity even when his smirks and sniggers throughout the debate told a slightly different story.
The discrepancy in flag pin sizes also reared its ugly head again. Biden couldn’t very well one-up Obama, and chose a petite pin that matched the President’s. Ryan, meanwhile, wouldn’t dare downsize his flag (read: love for America) after Romney’s major showing last week. But let’s be honest, the real winner at that table was moderator Martha Raddatz, whose trim black suit, ice blonde bob, and incisive questions meant nothing but business.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
