So David was all, “One reason is Harper’s an old English name which we loved – and one of the other reasons was Victoria’s favourite book is To Kill A Mockingbird and the author was Harper Lee. It’s a very strong, passionate book. That’s where Harper came from.” And then we liked the name even more! Now Vogue UK reports that sales of the book have more than doubled since the weekend, and as such the 51-year-old iconic novel is climbing the bestseller charts.
BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE. Abrams Media superstar Sarah was like, “Um, but Posh Spice doesn’t read.” And we were like, “That was way harsh, Tai.” But then Sarah backed up her claim. Yes, in 2005, Victoria infamously declared the following:
“I haven’t read a book in my life. I don’t have the time. I prefer listening to music, although I do love fashion magazines.”
That sucks! That is NOT Girl Power! And also, that was clearly a lie? Because, duh, the Spice Girls went to school at some point? And even if it is true, then David was lying? Or maybe Victoria read To Kill A Mockingbird some time in the last six years? And would that mean she’s never read her own books, one of which was published before she said that quote? Whatever the case may be, it is still super lame Victoria ever said that in the first place. Sigh.
