Branding videos are nothing new, but what are you supposed to do when they don’t gel up with the brand they’re supposed to be advertising? Call us crazy, but that’s sort of what’s going on in the short film for Victoria by Victoria Beckham, the British designers hotly anticipated diffusion collection.
The two-minute video was directed by Quentin Jones, a former model noted for her stop-motion shorts. This one in particular is cool — we love how colorful and graphic it is — but for some reason it doesn’t connect with the line for young women in their 20s that we thought Beckham was keen to deliver. The whole concept is a little more little girl than all that — and that description could be applied to the clothes themselves.
There are lots of boys and simple colors, and is it just us or is every dress a trapeze cut, baby-doll looking affair? There’s nothing wrong with that, especially when you consider that these dresses are open to a wider variety of body types than the laser tailored suits and cocktail dresses in Beckham’s full-price line. But still. But still.
