First Anna Wintour makes her foray into selfies, and now Vogue is taking to Instagram to produce their fabled spreads. Trading in higher-than-high-res images for fuzzy filtered realness is something that speaks to our Instragram-savy selves, but on the same token, we’d be devastated if grams took over Vogue’s glossy pages. Fortunately, we don’t see it happening on Patrick Demarchelier’s watch anytime soon.
The fashion bible asked photographer Michael O’Neal to shoot three fashion editorials around New York City on nothing but an iPhone. Despite our hesitations, we’re completely swooning over the compositions, as well as the motifs that spell out dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker. First, Xiao Wen Ju ventures into Chinatown in fall looks styled by Stella Greenspan under the hashtag #wednesdaybreakmyheart. Then, we see the hair envy-inducing Arlenis Sosa sport a shopping addiction in the #onestopshopnyc spread styled by Jorden Bickham. Last, Hilary Rhoda #sleepwalksnewyork in pajamas on a touristy-chic outing, traveling from Times Square to the American Museum of Natural History.
While we don’t expect Vogue’s latest social media embrace to hush Instagram naysayers, we’re always keen to the storied publication looking to the future. Get a peek at the images below, and see the full spreads here.
