Vogue Looks Forward With New iPhone App

Today, Vogue unveiled their highly anticipated free iPhone application, Vogue Stylist. Rather than an application that takes users through the editorial they are already seeing on the pages of an issue, Vogue Stylist aims to inform users of the hottest trends from the pages of Vogue, and style those trends in conjunction with one’s own personal wardrobe. Choose a trend, for instance knee high socks, and style it virtually with clothes you already have in our own wardrobe. Like what you see? You’ll be able to navigate through the application to buy the product instantly. The application is launching was 91 brands including and over 600 products.

In addition to highlighting the season’s hottest trends, Vogue Stylist will also enable users to unlock exclusive content – videos, discounts and special offers, invites – by taking a picture of an advertisement from a Vogue issue. Currently, Gucci, Hudson Jeans, Kate Spade, Longchamp Paris, Nine West, Valentino, and Via Spiga will all be participating in this feature.

“Vogue Stylist was created as another way to extend the Condé Nast Brand to encourage consumer connectivity and engagement through new media,” said Charles H. Townsend, President and CEO. “Vogue Stylist is our eleventh app in the market, and an exciting addition to the company’s current offerings.”

While other Condé Nast publications may be moving forward with the latest trends in new technology, it seems to be a bold step for Vogue to be part of that group. Vogue Stylist may be a definite step in the right direction for the publication that, in recent years, has appeared a bit hesitant to change its old (some may say stale) ways. But as the fashion bible’s Editor in Chief so brilliantly stated in R.J. Cutler‘s The September Issue, “Fashion’s not about looking back. It’s always about looking forward.” Vogue Stylist seems to be doing just that.

Vogue Stylist is free on iTunes in the application store.
