W is celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion the magazine has recruited four of fashion’s favorite Hollywood faces to cover the November issue, one for each decade they’ve been churning out the glossy. Here’s a breakdown of the Steven Klein-lensed snaps:
1970s: Rooney Mara
The styling is right on point, from the geometric Prada suit to the Louise Brooks-cum-Vidal Sassoon bob, but something about the makeup look is throwing us off.
1980s: Mia Wasikowska
Orange hair and technicolor makeup mean this is a far, far cry from the actress’ all-white-everything cover for the glossy last year. It’s a edgy new look for the usually prim Wasikowska, and we’re definitely on board.
1990s: Scarlett Johansson
Well, this is probably the only time we’ll be able to say that we could hop on down to Ricky’s and come out looking like ScarJo. At least she’s all ready to go for Halloween?
2000s: Keira Knightley
The best of the bunch, no question. Between the acid blonde ‘do, the portrait collared Chanel jacket, and the oversized diamond jewels, we can’t take our eyes off the actress.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
