Photos can make a red carpet premiere seem very glamorous, but when we think about what actually goes in to being there, we realize it’s basically our equivalent of water torture. We can’t even pose normally for a photo our friends take of us, so we kind of understand why Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence says the whole red carpet experience is actually a nightmare. She may look good (like, seriously good), but last night she told David Letterman appearances aren’t at all what they seem.
Lawrence describes her red carpet experience thusly:
“Out of four [red carpet premieres], I’ve tripped in two or three of them. Like, massive trips.
…It’s so scary. And then I end up getting so nervous that I’m like [I am] now. I get really hyper. And then I go and do interviews and I’m like, ‘I’m like a chihuahua! I’m shaking and peeing!’ And then after, I’m like, ‘I just talked about peeing on the red carpet.’
And then I get halfway through the red carpet and somebody goes, ‘Suck in!’. And I’m like, ‘Great.’ …So I’ve done half the red carpet and I’m sucking in, but I’m wondering about the other half of the pictures. And that was the end of me googling myself.”
That sounds about right. It might also explain why Lawrence changed outfits during her Late Show appearance. On stage, Lawrence wore a black and gold body-con dress with full sleeves from Prabal Gurung‘s pre-fall 2012 collection, but she was also photographed outside wearing a black cutout dress by Raoul. Perhaps she was just testing it? Later, Lawrence changed into a forest green Calvin Klein dress with a plunging neckline for the Cinema Society screening of her film.
