It’s hard to believe it’s been two whole months since Willow Smith‘s “Whip My Hair” took over our lives. We were instantly captivated by the girl power anthem, but it was really Willow’s amazing video that made us downright fanatical. Those clothes and that hair and that SWAGGER. Oh, that swagger. And because “Whip My Hair” is the gift that keeps on giving, we now get to take a behind-the-scenes look at the magic that went into the video.
In the past couple months we’ve seen birds, teens and even Bruce Springsteen co-opt the tune, but nothing satisfies quite like the original. This making-of clip includes Will and Jada (“We really are proud of Willow, and excited.”), those awesome nails (“I’m getting my nails done with boomboxes on them.”) and her backup dancers (They’re called Warriorettes!).
As Willow says: “‘Whip My Hair’ means don’t be afraid to be an individual.” And as one of her dancers says: “I mean, I don’t know about anybody else… but like, my neck hurts a little bit.”
Yeah, you need to watch this:
