We’ve made no secret of our obsession with Willow Smith — this is our third post on the pint-sized pop star in as many days — and we’re not alone. While out and about in NYC on Tuesday, Smith dropped by the Teen Vogue offices to talk about her new video, her style, and what it was like to sit front row at Dolce & Gabbana.
Thankfully, Teen Vogue filmed a portion of their chat and it’s actually pretty amazing to see how comfortable she is in front of the camera. More amazing is the fact that her sentences aren’t peppered with the likes, ums, and Valley Girl lilt so common to kids her age. (Cecilia Cassini, we’re looking at you.) Also, it takes a pretty cool 9-year-old to declare Billy Idol as her favorite fashion icon. (She cites his leather jackets and guyliner as particularly inspirational.)
That said, Smith seems already aware of her own influence. When asked what it was like to sit front row at Dolce & Gabbana, she told the camera, “[It felt] like I was a fashion icon, too.”
A few more tidbits:
On her style:
I used to like dresses and tights but when I turned nine, my style changed. My mom helps me pick out my clothes, but my brother always says: Willow, sag your pants!
On meeting Domenico Dolce:
I was writing a song on my phone, and my mom walked in and said: Willow. And I was like: Mom give me a minute, because I was focused on writing. And I looked up and there was Dolce, and I was like: Oh my God.
