Two nights ago, Lena Dunham posted a photo of herself to Instagram that made the internet scratch its collective head. It showed Dunham with a platinum blonde bowl cut, and had the caption “Change is good.” But something about her position (and that fact that we’ve been fooled by celebrities before) led many to speculate and assume the hair was probably a wig.
But over the weekend, Dunham not only uploaded another photo that made the haircut look real, she even posted a video of herself partaking in the ice bucket challenge, and it removed all questions. Apparently, the hair cut is real.
It’s an interesting look, and a bold move on Dunham’s part. (This probably means she won’t be on the cover of Vogue for a while. I can’t imagine Anna Wintour is a fan of bowl cuts). But I like it. In a world where the only hair options seem to be long, loose curls, a chin-length bob, or a pixie cut, I appreciate that Dunham is committed to a look that is truly out of the box for those of us who aren’t 7 year old boys. Also, as a wise man once said, #YOLO.
