Usually I just can’t with musical comedy acts. You can keep your Bo Burnham; I’d prefer monotone jokes about pizza, farts, and pizza farts any day of the week. But when I discovered Garfunkel and Oates, Kate Micuicci and Riki Lindhome’s musical comedy duo, well, I ate my hat! Surprisingly, I don’t mind it when these ladies play ukuleles and sing to me about how pregnant women are smug and trying to get a medical marijuana prescription; the songs are charming, perceptive, and damn catchy!
Because life is as magic as the liquid and solids in a young girl’s heart (Ed’s Note: for the record, I have cut open plenty of young girls’ hearts and have found none of this rumored magic. What gives?!), Micucci and Lindhome have a ten-episode half-hour comedy on IFC, which finally arrives on your TV box tomorrow at 10 PM. The series, also called Garfunkel and Oates, spotlights the personal and professional lives of the duo whose career choices – singing satirical and sometimes dirty songs – leaves them with little in common with their peers, and no one but each other to turn to for support and understanding.
