Saint Laurent CEO Quits To Become Vice President At Apple

Paul Deneve has stepped down as CEO of (Yves) Saint Laurent for a surprising new post — Apple’s new Vice President. Although Deneve has previously held positions in the luxury fashion realm at Lanvin and Nina Ricci, look further down his resume and you’ll find that he actually worked for the iRetailer during the ’90s.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Paul Deneve to Apple,” a statement released by the company yesterday said. “He’ll be working on special projects as a vice president reporting directly to Tim Cook.”

We imagine that Hedi Slimane is disappointed to see him go, considering that Deneve hired the designer, but the top-level change up means more responsibility for the creative director. Slimane will now supervise “all strategic projects” for YSL, in addition to his current responsibility for brand image and creation, Kering’s statement said.

“Hedi Slimane has a clear creative vision for Saint Laurent,” said Francois-Henri Pinault, Kering’s CEO. “He has successfully rejuvenated and repositioned the brand.” Don’t try to convince Cathy Horyn of this.

As for who will replace the seasoned exec, that would be former Bottega Veneta executive director, Francesca Bellettini. While Saint Laurent sales have gone gangbusters under Deneve/Slimane, we’re always behind a woman running the show.
