My favorite way to get know a person is by their taste in music — and that goes for designer’s too. Typically, I’ll have to discern what’s going on in a designer’s iTunes library from a 10-minute long runway show, but that’s changing as Zac Posen has teamed up with Spotify to incorporate music into his ZAC Zac Posen Fall 2014 lookbook. This marks the first time Spotify has worked with a designer in such fashion.
Posen has chosen 2-5 songs for each look from the collection that represent the music he was either jamming out to or inspired by when creating the design. As far as the artists on the roster, the selection is as multi-faceted has his confections. As a tribute to his penchant for drama, there’s Vivaldi, Nancy Sinatra, Bette Midler, Liza Minnelli, Judy Garland, Etta James, and Barbara Streisand. For those who don’t fancy themselves old souls, you can still get down with Britney Spears, Ke$ha, Cat Power, and Haim.
My favorite playlist involves one ethereal white gown, Midler’s “Do You Want To Dance,” Power’s “Manhattan,” and Fred Astaire’s “Steppin’ Out with My Baby.” Dear Zac, can you please host a music exchange party at your atelier?
