All The Glorious Details We Have So Far On Zoolander 2

Just when we thought we may have to start drawing up a eugoogaly for the Zoolander franchise, it looks like a sequel may actually, finally be in the works — it’s even got its own IMDb page! Now the only thing we’re waiting for is a studio to give it the go ahead.

In an interview with UK paper Metro, Ben Stiller revealed that the fim is written and ready to go:

“We have a script that we really like so I’m hoping it’s going to happen – I just want to make sure it lives up to what fans of the first one want.”

Stiller is pretty much king of the blockbuster franchise (Night at the Museum and Madagascar, anyone?), so we think its a safe bet that it won’t disappoint.

Especially given that in another interview with Metro, the actor/director/face behind “Blue Steel” gave few more details about what the sequel might look like, and it certainly sounds promising:

“I don’t want to give away too much, but it’s basically Derek and Hansel ten years later. Though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they’re not really relevant anymore. It’s a new world for them.”

A whole new continent, too, since the movie will be set in Europe. Stiller also confirmed that he co-wrote the script with Justin Theroux, otherwise known as the menacing, “Relax”-spinning DJ from the first movie, or, of course, as Jennifer Aniston‘s fiancée. Now Theroux’s front row seat at Alexander Wang last month makes total sense — industry research! Maybe this means Mugatu‘s next collection will glow in the dark? We can only hope.

And speaking of Mugatu, Will Ferrell is reportedly highly eager to reprise his role as the evil fashion designer. Stiller also hinted at unfinished business with the character in a lengthy New Yorker profile earlier this summer, describing a scene he had wanted to use for the end title sequence that the studio had nixed when they were trying to cut costs. It was “this great thing of Will Ferrell dancing. God do I regret that.”

And one final detail comes courtesy of UK tabloid The Sun: Lady Gaga has reportedly been offered $5 million to play Hansel and Derek‘s latest love interest, a rumor substantiated by Owen Wilson‘s insistence in a 2010 interview that “Gaga has to be in it.”

Looks like someone might just get their wish.
