Charity Event Raises Good Money And Gives Good Bags
It was a sea of pink on Manhattan’s upper east side Thursday evening as three hundred New York City ladies bid on more than 100 beautiful designer handbags to raise money for women’s cancer prevention. As guests arrived at the New York Junior League’s Astor House, the mood was set as they watched the trailer for the soon to be released (and eagerly awaited) Sex And The City 2. After all, when Carrie Bradshaw makes shopping seem like one of Maslow’s most basic human needs, stylish women in stilettos are sure to follow suit.
Bidpal’s iTouch made it easy to bid up items, and “buy it now” even while out of sight of your bag. Competition was alive and well as bubbly from Domaine Carneros by Tattinger flowed freely along with bites from Bobo Restaurant all evening. Chef Patrick even prepared the food onsite.
Some of the auction highlights? A brand new purple crocodile Ralph Lauren Ricky bag with a $16,787 retail value went for $6000 — that’s quite a steal for a bag that never goes on sale! A few of the other brands at auction included Chanel, Hermes, Yves St Laurent, Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and DVF. And for those who’ve always dreamed of carrying a celebrity owned bag, last night stars like Lauren Bacall, Anne Archer, Christina Applegate and Heidi Montag generously donated their personal handbags.
The second annual Babes, Bags and Bubbles event grossed over $50,000 during a three-hour period.
